Crew Members Injured in Crash on Set of Eddie Murphy Film ‘The Pickup’
Multiple crew members were injured and two were hospitalized during a car collision on the set of Eddie Murphy‘s new film, The Pickup, which is currently shooting in Georgia. Murphy and his co-stars, who include Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson, were not on the set at the time of the accident.
The crash, between a car and a truck, occurred during filming on Saturday. A spokesperson from Amazon MGM Studios told The Associated Press that the scene had been rehearsed and that all safety precautions were taken.
“Unfortunately, the sequence did not go as planned and several members of the crew were injured as a result,” a studio spokesperson told AP. “We are still in the process of gathering facts on what happened and why, but first and foremost our thoughts are with those who are recovering. The well-being of the entire crew and cast is our first priority, and we will continue to insist on the highest industry standards of safety while filming. All safety precautions were reviewed prior to and monitored during the shoot.”
A source, who spoke to AP on condition of anonymity, added that the collision was a “completely freak accident” that occurred when a truck locked up and hit a car. They added, “It wasn’t even a complicated or dangerous stunt.”
According to AP, the injuries ranged from bumps and bruises to broken bones. One crew member remained hospitalized as of Tuesday, but all are expected to make a full recovery.
The Pickup is being directed by Tim Story and has been shooting in and around Atlanta since February. It was written by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, and also stars Eva Longoria, Andrew Dice Clay, and Marshawn Lynch. It has yet to get a release date.
