‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Trailer: What Could Go Wrong With These Two Together?
What would hurt worse, Wolverine‘s claws slicing right into your groin or Deadpool‘s semiautomatic handguns firing into your flanks while he cradles you spread eagle on icy terrain? The trailer for Marvel’s upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine doesn’t answer that question — these two seem to survive on pithy sass and rejoinders — but the movie might reveal the stronger superhero when it comes out on July 26.
The trailer opens with Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) in full costume, approaching Wolverine (Hugh Jackman dressed like “Hugh Jackman” — or rather Wolvie’s off-duty alter ego “Logan” in street clothes) at a bar, calling Wolvie “Peanut” and making a whiskey-dick joke when Logan’s claws fail at half-mast. “It’s quite common in Wolverines over 40,” Deadpool quips. They spar verbally and Deadpool pulls out one of his guns, whose barrel sports the legend, Smile, Wait for the Flash. And then it’s on from there. Wolverine suits up in yellow and in comes the plot.
In addition to Jackman and Reynolds — who posted the trailer to his YouTube channel with the words, “Found the guy who killed Bambi’s mom” — the film features Rob Delaney, Jennifer Garner, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, and Matthew Macfadyen, among others.
Filmmaker Shawn Levy, who was nominated for an Oscar for producing Arrival and is best known for directing episodes of Stranger Things and All the Light We Cannot See, directed the film. He previously directed Reynolds and Garner in The Adam Project. Levy, Reynolds, and Rhett Reese (who has co-written every other Deadpool) collaborated on the script.
